Bangladesh stars make major gains in latest ICC Test rankings after Pakistan series sweep
Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das and Taijul Islam made significant gains in the latest ICC Test rankings after Bangladesh’s 2-0 series win over Pakistan.
The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has strongly objected to comments made by BCB Finance Committee chairman M. Nazmul Islam, terming them unacceptable and damaging to players’ dignity.

A lot is unfolding in Bangladesh cricket at the moment. Even as uncertainty continues over the T20 World Cup venue issue, the situation has escalated with Bangladesh’s cricketers threatening to boycott the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) following remarks made by a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official.

The controversy stems from a now-deleted Facebook post in which Islam described former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal as an “Indian agent”. The remark triggered widespread backlash. Tamim had earlier called for constructive dialogue with the ICC and the BCCI amid the ongoing T20 World Cup venue row, suggesting that decisions should be taken with the long-term future and financial interests of Bangladesh cricket in mind.

On Wednesday, Islam further fuelled the controversy by telling reporters that the BCB would not suffer financially if Bangladesh did not participate in the T20 World Cup due to their reluctance to travel to India.
“The board has no profit or loss here. Whether Bangladesh plays or not, there is no profit or loss for the board — at least for this World Cup,” Islam said.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board issued a statement on Wednesday evening distancing itself from Islam’s comments, stating that they do not reflect the board’s values or official stance.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to address recent comments made by a member of the Board that have generated concern,” the statement read.
“The Board expresses its sincere regret for remarks that may be deemed inappropriate, offensive, or hurtful. Such comments do not reflect the values, principles, or official position of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, nor do they align with the standards of conduct expected from individuals entrusted with the responsibility of serving Bangladesh cricket.”
The BCB clarified that any remarks made outside its authorised communication channels are personal and should not be construed as official board policy.
“The BCB reiterates that it does not endorse or take responsibility for any statement made by any director or Board member unless issued formally through the board’s designated spokesperson or the Media & Communications Department.”
The board also warned of possible disciplinary action.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board makes it clear that it will take appropriate disciplinary action against any individual whose conduct or comments show disrespect towards cricketers or cause harm to the reputation and integrity of Bangladesh cricket.”
Reaffirming its support for players, the BCB added:
“The Board unequivocally reaffirms its full support for and respect towards all cricketers, past and present, who have represented the country with dedication and pride. Players remain at the heart of Bangladesh cricket, and their contributions and welfare continue to be a top priority.”
